Morocco’s COP22 conference was an incredibly eye-opening experience in helping us ‘greenie’ kids realise just how complicated, powerful and tough the climate action movement was. It was as though we were drowning in powerlessness — or at least felt that way. But that experience only made us more empowered to make our voices louder, our messages clearer, and our passions stronger. Here I am, for the second year representing youth voices as part of Green Generation’s delegation attending the UN’s Climate Conference (COP23) in Bonn, Germany next week.

This year is different for me — an opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone by acting in a performance that will be presented in front of hundreds, and putting myself out there by connecting and communicating with youth activists across the globe. I have more confidence and even more passion than last year to really grasp all I can get from this experience, and use that as a way of symbolising my transition back into my past reality — returning back to Australia at the end of the year and wanting to maintain my passion for environmental activism solid, despite the change in environment.

This past week of preparations, the team has been living out a satire dream — GS original performance highlighting Indonesia’s conflict palm oil industry and climate action empowerment, with much humour involved! As my alter-ego comes out as character Bogan Lady, my love for theatre has come about. But with one week to go, the most exciting thing we are all looking forward to is: the cold weather, team bonding, roasting greenwashing corporations, and practicing our protection of Mother Earth — See you very soon, Bonn!!
