Team Australia adds two gay athletes for the Winter Olympics
They’ll be competing in snowboarding and cross-country skiing
Two gay athletes just landed on Australia’s team for PyeongChang 2018 Olympics.
This year’s Winter Olympics commence in just two weeks.
Snowboarder Belle Brockhoff recently announced her placement on the team.
‘Incredibly honoured and excited to announce that I’ll be representing Australia for the second time at the Olympic Games next month!!!’ she wrote. ‘I will be riding my heart out!’
Brockhoff competed in snowboard cross at the Sochi Games in 2014.
However, she has to be medically cleared to compete. She ruptured a knee ligament in December and, amazingly, got back to training recently.
Brockhoff came out in 2013. She was one of 27 athletes who signed a letter to stop Kazakhstan hosting the 2022 Winter Olympic Games because of the country’s anti-gay stances. In fact, Beijing ended up with the 2022 Games.
Another athlete also made it
Cross-country skiier Barbara Jezersek will also be joining Brockhoff.
Jezersek originally competed in 2014 for her native Slovenia. However, now she’s an Australian citizen.
The Winter Olympics begin on 9 February in PyeongChang, South Korea.
