Guardians of Earth will be the world’s first Play-Earn-Protect game where anyone can have fun while helping save life on Earth. And, this can be done in both the virtual and in the REAL world!

Did I hear you ask, “Hang-on, if life on Earth needs to be saved, shouldn’t we be getting serious? Isn’t playing a game just the opposite of that?”

There’s no need to worry because we aren’t taking this lightly. We are being serious while also considering the fun factor. The trick is that a well designed game is so much more than ‘just a bit of fun.’ A great game empowers players to take meaningful actions that can make a positive impact in the world.

In the words of futurist Jane McGonigal, games are in fact a “platform for collaborating on our most important planetary efforts.” In the book Reality is Broken, McGonigal explains that games have immense potential to create a better world because they:

  1. Put our personal strengths to better use through voluntary obstacles
  2. Focus our energy on things we are good at and enjoy
  3. Give us clearer missions with more satisfying, hands-on work
  4. Eliminate our fear of failure and improve our chances of success
  5. Build social bonds and activate social networks
  6. Make us part of something bigger, giving epic meaning to our actions
  7. Motivate us to participate more fully in whatever we are doing
  8. Make us feel more rewarded for making our best effort
  9. Help us band together and make powerful communities from scratch
  10. Make it easier to take good advice and try out happier habits

In short, games can be very effective empowerment tools and when empowered players are pointed in the right direction, the world is their canvas.

In the case of Guardians of Earth, the fundamental problem we are dealing with is not mass extinction. It’s actually the coordination failure of our society in addressing this crisis. It’s about the disempowerment of immense human potential that deserves to be engaged with healing nature and healing itself through the process. With this lens, all the superpowers of the game comes into play.

Through Guardians of Earth, we are empowered to tap into our potential as stronger and happier humans who are filled with purpose. We are motivated to grow our biodiversity knowledge — an essential asset to our future.

In Mcgonigal’s words, “Together we can tackle what may be the most worthwhile, most epic obstacle of all: a whole planetary mission, to use games to raise global quality of life, to prepare ourselves for the future, and to sustain our earth for the next millennium and beyond.”

This was all to say that we believe that everyone has a purpose and everyone has the ability to be part of saving the planet through Guardians of Earth. With the newest technology, we can do this together through Web3 which will be explored more in-depth in the next blog.
