Conditional formatting is a helpful way to make trends and outliers in your data more apparent. It’s been a feature in Excel for ages, but wasn’t possible in Notion until quite recently. With the Formulas 2.0 update you can now apply styles to your properties, which opens the door to some very helpful views.

In this article I’m going to walk you through how to create a simple formatted column in Notion using these new formulas. More specifically, how to show weekly sales in a way that adds context, and makes it easier to see irregular weeks.

Create the properties

You’ll first need to create a new database with these two properties:

  • Week (Title)
  • Value (Number with a currency format)

You’ll need to clear any other properties from the database. For this example you can copy the numbers and titles I’m using in the screenshot above. With the basics in place we’re ready to start building our formatted column.
