Vox pop has been a great way of understanding what the general populace think of a given object/situation or event. Throughout the years it has become a very popular form of content that can be seen on various media channels. Vox pop can also alternatively be called as ‘street interviews’ since most of the time, it involves a person interviewing strangers in various public places.
What is Vox Pop?
Vox pop should not be confused with the traditional survey. In a vox pop interview, each person is asked the same question and the goal is to get a variety of answers and opinions on any given subject. Interviewers usually approach a wide range of people to get varied answers from different points of view. The interviewees should ideally be of various ages, sexes, classes and communities so that the diverse views and reactions of the general people will be known.
Our first steps
denture capital began our vox pop interviews back in August 2016. Where we asked the public if they knew what some trending startups do by only hearing their name.
The response we received was great and we followed up with our next one: “Would you date an entrepreneur?”.
At this point, we were still establishing the style in which we were going to present this to the audience. What we wanted was the video to be:
- Lighthearted and fun.
- Acquire as many unique responses as possible.
- Make the content engaging while keeping the video length short.
- No click-bait, viewers get what they see.
- Tackle an interesting or pressing subject matter.
After the style was established, we followed up this series with videos like:
“What is your craziest startup idea!?”
“Ban of cab sharing (Ola/Uber)”
“Friend as a business partner?”
Collaborating with brands
It was at this time we decided that we can combine this style of video with a collaboration partner. This would result in more publicity for the brand while not showing it off as an explicit advert. Our first collaboration was with WeWork. WeWork wanted to showcase their new co-working space that opened in the Koramangala area (Bangalore). The process was fairly straight forward. The question we would ask the public was “Are you doing what you love?”. This time, we got a local Radio Jockey Shaayan Bhattacharya as the interviewer and host.
At the end, the people who were interviewed got a coupon for 20 days free trial at the new office space.
We are going to do a Vox Pop video every week from now!
How you can participate?
We don’t usually make announcements of a Vox Pop that we’d be doing. But if you want to be part of it, email us on hustle@denturecapital.in and we’d add you to the list.
If you are a brand looking for a quirky way to test your product / talk about your product or get opinions, you should do a Vox Pop video.
Write to us on hustle@denturecapital.in and we will get back to you!
