Around the September of 2021, when the second phase of Covid was almost over, we were contacted by Coursera to work on a ‘Success Story’ video.

This was very interesting for us as the idea was on how a top University in India had pivoted to an online model bang in the middle of the pandemic — and they were helped to a large extent by one of the pioneers in MOOC (massive open online course) provider, Coursera.

The University here is GITAM, one among the top 500 Universities in Asia with campuses in 3 locations. The goal was to impart online learning to over 25,000 students. That’s massive! The project was a a success and both Coursera & GITAM wanted to tell this story!

The Creative Director on the project was Joey & the Client Partner was Avijeet. We had Puneet Nagpal & Aviral Jain from Coursera helping us with everything.

A week before the day of shoot, the third wave of Covid started and we were unsure whether we’d make it. But the team managed to reach Vizag a day prior, visited the campus and planned the shoot.

The shoot went on for 2 days in the large campus and thankfully we had a 5 member team working together. Almost 10+ interviews with faculty & another 10+ interviews with students plus a lot of B-Roll footage along with drone shots were taken.

Its very important to follow brand guidelines when working with large enterprises & this is something we have expertise in.

Our design team worked with Brand leads from Coursera in the US & Asia to create stunning designs in line with brand guidelines. Soorej did the designs & Razy worked on the post production. Both of them created some high quality work that was appreciated by all.

We were also helped tremendously by Puneet & Aviral from Coursera.

Since we also had a lot of content, the idea was to do a full playlist on the partnership rather than do just one video.

The content has helped the Biz Dev team at Coursera close more deals & Coursera & GITAM continue to partner on the online model of learning even after everything is back to normal.

In fact, the idea of hybrid learning is now commonplace among most Universities.

Some reasons why this was a successful project

Puneet from Coursera helping the team
  1. Collaboration — We always maintain that a video project only becomes a success when the client has skin in the game & participates at every step. The Coursera team was always available (even present at Vizag), took a lot of interest and care in ensuring the designs, the music and everything else was spot on.
  2. Experience — You need a highly experienced team to pull off something like this. Joey especially with over 10 years of experience in the video industry led the project from start to finish as CD. Soorej with his design prowess & Razy with his edit & animation skill ensured the videos were a class apart. Not to mention the hustle on part of Avijeet to ensure everything went smoothly (Every project has hiccups, nothing is perfect — the on ground team has to have the smarts)
  3. Pre-production — Most people don’t realise 80% of the success of a project is proper planning. The team put a lot of efforts in this.
  4. Execution — There is no video project or film without hustle. On the day of shoot, everyone has to hustle hard to ensure whatever was planned is executed. Also during post production, there should be very good emphasis on quality.
