Different factors such as motion, cuts, transitions, special effects and music determine the dynamic and punch of a after movie. If you want to create a movie that captures the atmosphere and feeling from the event, you’ll need to find the perfect combination between these factors.
When starting with an after-movie, know what your are going to be creating. Before you start filming random shots at your event, first think about
- What your are trying to tell?
- What is the story of the event?
- What makes it special? and
- What will make it special on camera?
Try to imagine your finished version, this way you’ll know what shots you need. While you’re at it, think about having a beginning, middle and end. Every movie has a structure.
Filming a variety of footage is almost impossible for one person. The bigger the event the more impossible it is. Covering events with a multi member team will be most efficient. Utilising more specific equipment with interchangeable lenses that don’t cover the whole range of the wide and telephoto field of view. Cameras with integrated lenses will never be as great as interchangeable ones.
Team size for an ideal one day event — 3 to 4 member team
Equipment — Cameras, lenses, lights, gimbals, sliders, dolly, sound equipment, etc.
What does it cost?
A good starting point for a 150–200 attendee sized event is INR 1.5 Lakhs for the entire package that will give you stationary camera recordings, bytes, an after film, testimonials and photographs.
