Guest WiFi was complicated — Cucumber Tony makes it simple.

More and more businesses rely on WiFi. It runs their IT systems and offers customers internet access. It’s a critical tool for every business, but decent WiFi with a Guest Access option isn’t that simple. To get it right you need to install expensive enterprise kit and employ an IT expert to manage it.

Not every business needs a high end network. They do need more than a SOHO router though. We’ve met a lot of businesses that make do with bad WiFi because of cost — restaurants who turn the WiFi off when it’s busy because it crashes their tills, hotels with login pages that look like they were designed in 1997 and offices paying for three separate broadband lines just to offer their clients the Internet.

For years we ran a specialist WiFi company (PolkaSpots) installing WiFi networks for businesses. We searched for a WiFi platform not tied to a vendor, had a full range of Guest Access features, and was easy to use. We found nothing that came even close.

Seeing as we couldn’t find a proper solution we decided to build it ourselves.

Introducing Cucumber Tony — a simple Guest WiFi solution for businesses.

We built Cucumber Tony to give businesses a comprehensive WiFi solution without the hassle and expense of traditional IT software systems.

We looked at the enterprise features people were using and built the platform up from there. We made it vendor neutral so anyone can use it, put it in the Cloud so it’s easy to get to and wrapped it all up with a disruptive pricing plan.

Here’s how we hope it can help you improve your WiFi.

Guest WiFi Anyone Can Set Up

Anyone can now control their WiFi from the cloud. You set up your network and splash pages from an intuitive dashboard. This includes a separate SSID for guests so they won’t affect the performance and security of your business applications.

Splash pages are easy to design and there’s options like email capture, eBilling and social logins you would normally pay a specialist to set up.

A Stable Connection

Businesses rely on their WiFi and adding guests to the network often slows down their own connection or jeopardises security.

To solve this we’ve included some simple networking features like bandwidth management you normally only see in high-end kit.

Once your network is up and running you can see who’s connected and how fast their connection is. If there’s ever a problem you’ll get alerts with a report on what happened and how to fix it.

Disruptive Pricing

We wanted to make guest WiFi flexible and affordable so we got rid of the licence.

A licence means you pay per access point. We found people were cutting back costs and not installing enough APs to cover their building.

So we priced Cucumber Tony per splash page view. You can add as many access points as you like to your network. You only pay for how many times your splash page is viewed per month, in real terms that’s how popular your WiFi is.

The Kit

Cucumber Tony supports multiple access points — from Ubiquiti UniFi to Cisco Meraki.

You can buy a Cucumber Tony access point online, or if you have an existing WiFi network Cucumber Tony integrates really easily.

Disrupting business WiFi

We’re on a mission to make WiFi better for businesses and their guests.

Cucumber Tony has been through beta and is now on general release.
