In case you didn’t already know, good WiFi takes time to get right. WiFi engineers and professionals traveled far and wide to attend WiFi Design Day. It was a day of catching up with old friends and making new ones.

More importantly, it was an educational and informative day all for WiFi enthusiasts. It was great to stay updated with the industry, learn new methods, new tools and also comforting to hear about experiences from other likeminded engineers.

We heard from great speakers like Keith Parsons — Godfather of WiFi, Jussi Kiviniemi — VP of Ekahau, Elizabeth Di Rocco — Cisco trainer, and Peter MacKenzie — highly regarded WiFi engineer.

Essentially, the topics discussed highlighted how important it is to get WiFi right from the start and also a deeper level of understanding of WiFi.

So what did we learn?

  • WiFi site surveys are absolutely essential and how to get accurate WiFi site surveys depending on location, devices and even
  • Be honest and realistic to your clients so you can manage their expectations within their budget requirements. Don’t promise your clients the universe, it’ll only come back to haunt you.
  • Theory and practice can be very different. In an ideal scenario, you can do what you want to get WiFi absolutely perfect. In practice, there are a lot of factors to consider and you may not be able to always get the results you want.
  • Knowledge from WiFi engineers are invaluable. It is key to stay updated with WiFi knowledge — this industry is always changing and improving. Stay relevant.

Keith Parsons enjoys sharing his WiFi knowledge so more people can have a greater understanding of WiFi. More information on WiFi can be found here.

We hope to attend WiFi Design again in 2018! We didn’t get a chance to win any goodies this year, let’s hope our luck is better in 2018.
