Styling always ran in the family. My dear father and elder brother have always been well-dressed gentlemen. Growing up, I fiddled with my father’s cufflinks unaware of its worth or elegance and wore my brother’s pair of Chelsea boots without knowing that they are called Chelsea boots.
On the other hand, my second elder sister ensured I was always well dressed. You could say she was my Image Consultant.
I think that’s how the whole minimalist approach got embedded into my subconscious mind. Even though my father would sometimes wear colourful dress shirts or ties but neither him nor my brother would approve going too overboard. I believe I’m on the same path. If I get diverted, my dear sister might disown me. Haha.
Frankly speaking, I had a wrong concept about ‘styling’ for quite a long time. Whenever someone is described as stylish, the first thing that would appear on my mind is that the person is either too flamboyant or fancy. Probably that’s the very reason, I felt doubtful when anybody said I was stylish.
To define style in its truest form, I’d say it’s simply one’s way of doing things. Subconsciously, though, I was into ‘style’. In terms of clothing, I prefer being a minimalist. The simpler, the better. In terms of colour, black or navy blue dress shirts generally fall into my style. And when it comes to photography, I always, always prefer being monochromatic. Now, you can guess why all of the photographs here are in black-and-white. That’s just my style.
So, I guess, I’d always been stylish. In my own way. And working at Guise, I’m gradually learning more and more about menswear and style in general. But there’s much to learn and much to explore.
Ciao!
