Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month
GumGum Spotlight: Natalia Castiglioni, Uruguay
What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?
Uruguay is a country influenced in many ways from Spain from the times of the conquest. The most important thing I would say from hispanic heritage is our native tongue, in most of the countries in Latin America is the SPANISH. Each country has its own modified version of it but all share a common base and can communicate with each other.
Many of the first citizens of these lands were Spanish people looking for a future/opportunities and settling down in a land which has a good prospect. I would say that Hispanic heritage is part of our history and present.
On October 12th we celebrate the day that America was discovered, it is commemorated when Christopher Columbus first set foot in the Americas in 1492, it is also called the race day.
