It’s that period of the year, already: lights shine out there, while you grab that old, dusty coat from your closet. It’s December: time to pour an extra helping of eggnog, while you realize, once again, that you are late with your holiday marketing campaign. Will you make it this year? How can you set it apart from all the others, on social media? Xmas marketing campaigns by the major brands have become more elaborate year by year, with social media now playing an essential part. So how to stand out, while promoting our brand during the most exciting season?

Kettmeir’s Instagram is aimed to build a strong and elegant brand

Here is a list of five magic tips, provided by Big Finger, that will allow you to hack your Holiday Content Strategy, standing out within the social media channels.

1) Create a connection

During the festive season people’s emotions heighten, so social media campaigns can leverage them to drive action. Start with sharing a human moment that anyone can relate to: it’s the key to creating an emotional connection with your brand, and so to attracting people that are in the spirit of giving. Eventually, it’ll pay out.

2) Consider Instagram first

Being the major visual-centric social platform, Instagram allows brands to engage with customers in a way other marketing channels don’t. It seems Instagram users are not merely sharing photos and videos, but they are actually doing more: they share emotions. And isn’t Xmas the perfect moment to share emotions with people we love? Well, on Instagram there are 800 million monthly active users, so potentially 800 million people that will share their emotions with you. It’s a channel you can’t ignore anymore, so you gotta change the paradigm from “content is king”, to a new one: “visual content is king”. Let’s make it seasonal and relevant to this festive period for your customers, engaging with them, creating a connection and providing reasons to share emotions, more than content. It’ll make your brand stronger.

3) Add some nostalgia Xmas mood to your content

Whether you choose to post Instagram stories, videos or simple images, for Xmas you can’t avoid to add an aura of nostalgia. Try to create your nostalgic Xmas scenario: add some lights, a gentle choir and warm winter textiles to your content strategy. Or, less romantically but — maybe — more fun, provide references to some blockbuster movies like “Home alone” or “Trading Places”. It will reawaken your followers’ childhood. And it’ll pay out.

4) Engage with “Tapping” Snap

With over 300 million active users per day, Instagram Stories are making expiring content (content like images and videos that are only viewable for a short period of time) one of 2017’s top trend. So, you can’t ignore them: it’s a priority to include an Instagram Stories content strategy in your holiday marketing campaign. How to do it? First of all, create optimized content, which means vertical. Then, make your static images animated, exploiting the “tapping” function of Instagram Stories, while telling tales and guiding your followers through a path. This will allow you to have your followers watch your content for a longer time, engaging and drawing them into your call-to-action “swipe up for more”, at the end of the story. You can use this engaging Instagram stories format to create a recipe tutorial for the Holidays or to give advice about how to dress for a festive dinner with friends. There’s no limit on the story you can tell: be creative, experiment and use it to engage with your followers, while creating a real emotional connection.

5) Treat your feed as a puzzle and tell a running story

Kettmeir’s Instagram grid

If you want to set your visual content at a higher standard, you can use your Instagram grid wall to create puzzle images, that impress and become memorable. The trickiest parts of doing this are to keep a good quality on each single image and to show single photos that make sense individually (otherwise, people won’t click on them). Need some inspirations on how to exploit this layout approach? Why don’t you start telling a Xmas story through your feed, as if it was an advent calendar, discovering new contents every day while using different post formats? An other example? Split a single image into 9 or 12 posts in the grid. Let people discover more, while engaging with videos and slideshows across single posts: it’s what we did for Kettmeir’s launch of its Instagram account. So, turn your creativity on for this Holiday season and create awesome social content, connecting with your customer’s emotions.
