We now know where the Greenville Triumph will be playing their home games for, at least, their first season in USL League One.

On Wednesday the Greenville County Board of Zoning Appeals gave preliminary approval to a partnership between Greenville Triumph SC and Legacy Early College, located on Greenville’s west side. Final approval is expected to come in December.

Premier Facilities: Upgraded

Legacy boasts one of the best soccer fields in the city, but the Triumph will be upgrading the field to bring it into compliance with FIFA standards and will also construct a permanent scoreboard on the premises.

One issue currently is the lack of seating on the premises but the Triumph are set to construct temporary seating for approximately 4,000 fans.

Another issue worth noting is the potential for parking and gameday traffic issues. While there is a 250-space parking lot located near the field, that may not be adequate to accommodate up to 4,000 people on game day.

The team was able to complete a traffic study in the area and plans to employ several traffic management initiatives to address any issue in that realm. They have also been in contact with area businesses and churches who may want to open up their parking lots to sell parking during games.

If driving is not your thing, the field is a short distance to the Swamp Rabbit Trail, and the team will have bicycle parking available at the field. There will also be designated areas for Uber and Lyft drop-offs and pick-ups.

Community Initiative

The team has been working closely with the surrounding community to consider their input in this project and create initiatives to benefit the local residents. The team has hosted meetings to collect resident’s input and answer any questions they may have about this endeavor.

On game days, the Triumph will have a family zone set up featuring games, face painting and concessions and will not require a game ticket to access. The team also plans to host free soccer clinics for youth in the community.

A True Partnership

The partnership between the Greenville Triumph and Legacy Early College goes far beyond a stadium lease. This is a mutually-beneficial relationship for both the organizations and the people they serve.

As a part of the partnership, the Triumph will create game-day jobs and a staff internship position for Legacy scholars that will continue through the first five seasons of the team’s existence. The team hopes to raise the profile of both the school and its students through this arrangement.

“The truth is, we hope and plan to continue this partnership for years to come knowing that what we can do for the scholars and families of Legacy Early College is far outweighed by the graciousness of their welcome for our organization and their exuberant embrace of the Triumph family.” — Triumph Chairman Joe Erwin
