The NCAA College Basketball Tournament, better known as “March Madness,” was supposed to kick off yesterday.

Supposed to…

But that was before COVID-19 struck a blow to the functional world around us. Sports are for many an escape. A distraction from the hard things in our lives. While there are far bigger and more pressing issues than missing out on our sports fix at the moment, we are in need of some distraction more now than perhaps ever before.

So without sports on our televisions, and knowing that our beloved Greenville Triumph won’t be playing matches until mid-May at the earliest, and because the team just uploaded some amazing new roster pictures on the website, we thought it was time to have some fun.

Over the next few weeks, we are going to have a 19 man tournament to determine who is the ULTIMATE Greenville Triumph Matchelor. (Shoutout to Brittany Hildreth for her wonderful articles last season that, in part, inspired this tourney)

The seeding was determined randomly and is based on absolutely nothing.

The criteria for voting is completely up to you. You could simply vote for your favorite player. You could vote for the person you think would win in a fight to the death. Or, ladies, you could truly vote on who you think is would get your final rose.

How to Vote:

However you decide to make your choices, you will have several ways to vote. Each round will be open starting Monday at 9am and will run until Friday at 9am. Here is how you can vote:

  1. Follow @ytsspodcast and cast a vote in the weekly Twitter poll matchups.

Schedule for Voting:

  • March 23 — Play-In Round (19 is an odd number for a bracket so we had no choice here)

Prizes:

The winning player, aside from the honor of being the Ultimate Matchelor, will win a Yeah, THAT Soccer Show/GVLSoccer.com swag pack. Additionally, everyone who votes visibly (meaning with quote tweets, Facebook and Instagram comments) will also be entered into a drawing for a swag pack of their own. We may even throw in a personalized autographed photo of the winner if we can swing it.

So that’s it. Let’s have some fun while we’re all social distancing to help get us through this soccer void.
