Global warming pollution is taking a toll on the earth’s climate as a result we witnessed the warmest January in 2020. It is high time to take action, or else things will be worst after some years.

Yes, it is true. The last January was the warmest January after record keeping started in 1880, according to NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). Global land temperatures were the warmest till today, and the global ocean temperatures were the second warmest in January 2020. Furthermore, the satellite measured global temperature for the lowest 8 km of the atmosphere were the warmest or second warmest in the record of 42 years, said the University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH) and RSS, respectively.

In addition, the fourth-highest departure of temperature from the average of any month from 1880 was in January 2020. Except for the fact that March 2016, February 2016 and December 2015 had a greater temperature departure. However, the impressive fact is that the warmth of January 2020 arrived without an El Nino occurrence. At the same time, we are near to the nadir of one of the least active solar cycles in the last century: a moment when it is very tough to set global heat records because the earth receives a much-reduced amount of solar energy. In other words, January 2020 is a remarkably warm month and a strong indicator of the effects of how global warming is the main driver of our warming climate.

January 2020 also experienced a 2 billion dollar weather disasters across the world.

Australia Wildfires

We all remember the devastating bushfire that killed millions of animals and destroyed thousands of homes, as well as 75 people, died because of this extreme weather event. Also, the damage caused by the bushfire and drought amounted to over billions of dollars, an incident from which the country has still not recovered yet. Guardian Australia impressively launched the best video report of this catastrophic incident regarding how the people survived and recovering from it. Also, there is an excellent video put together by Peter Sinclair of the Yale Climate Forum about how the Australian fire is related to climate change. The question of how to stop global warming in Australia is hovering on the minds of every citizen who can now understand that the government is not doing enough to tackle climate change.

U.S. Severe Weather Outbreak

In US, a monstrous winter storm over central and eastern sections of the country from January 10–12 killed took 12 lives, and the damage was estimated to be 1.2 billion dollars. Moreover, the storm brought a multi-day harsh weather outbreak in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia, with 79 confirmed tornadoes.

On the other side of the world, the Arctic sea ice extent during January 2020 was recorded for eighth lowest in the 41-year satellite record, said the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). Besides, the hottest temperature in the Northern Hemisphere was 42.0°C (107.6°F) at Vicente Guerrero, Mexico, 21 January, and the coldest temperature in the Northern Hemisphere was -66.0°C (-86.8°F) at Geo Summit, Greenland, 3 January.
