Day Off in Austin

Today is my day “off.” Which means I get to go to work. Work for me today is renting a b-cycle and hopping around coffee shops.

This is one of my all-time favorite things to do. I get some good work done. See a different area. Try some unique food. And get a descent workout in. I’ve done this before on traveling alone for “work” to Boston and Washington DC, and absolutely love it.

I started at Houndstooth Coffee, located at the bottom of the frost bank tower (one of the most beautiful buildings in Austin). Then to the hideout, Walton’s Fancy and Staple for a sandwich, and finished at Blackheart for a beer.

Blackheart was, interesting. Looks quaint from the outside. But total dive bar on the inside. What’s interesting about this area though, is that there are several homes-turned-bar on the same block. Pretty cool and very unique to Austin.

Austin has a great start-up energy. At both coffee houses, I overheard multiple conversations about technology startups. And during my short stay at Blackheart, there were two different groups of guys that stopped by to pitch their beer/whisky. Makes me like this area even more.
