Launch of the last challenge.

Sybil resistance

The last challenge, Challenge VIII, combines three different ways to increase the Sybil score — users can choose any or all of the following options: (1) confirm their control over a whitelisted address, (2) claim Sybil points for contributing to moderation, education or translation, (3a) pass a KYC process, or (3b) confirm their control over a KYC-restricted platform such as Coinbase or Gemini.

(1) Whitelist

The first option to gain Sybil points is to be among the almost 100k addresses that have been whitelisted. This list (available here) is a snapshot of early and particularly active DeFi users:

  • Recipients of the LOBS airdrop: LOBS token were distributed to active participants of the Telegram channel LobsterDAO. This channel describes itself as being ‘dedicated to research around economics/ governance/ tech and projects in general’ and is a core platform for DeFi natives.
  • WRITE token users: WRITE is granting access to a token-gated publication platform, Mirror. Individuals who currently own WRITE or burnt it to publish on Mirror are included in this list, as being net-positive users of the DeFi ecosystem.
  • Eth 2.0 stakers: addresses that staked 32 ETH without using the services of a staking platform (e.g. Lido) are whitelisted. These addresses are most-likely early adopters of Ethereum, tech-savvy and forward-looking.
  • Early Compound LPs: addresses that provided liquidity to any Compound pool before 2020–06–01 are whitelisted. These addresses were early adopters of DeFi.

The above addresses were whitelisted as they could become particularly valuable community members and already have significant activity linked to their address.

(2) Community contributors

The second option to gain Sybil points is to log-in via Discord. A snapshot was taken of Discord members that offered substantial help or actively contributed to moderation, education or translation may claim Sybil points.

  • Every community member that offered substantial help in the #get-involved channel received one Sybil point.
  • Additional points were distributed to contributors to the different working groups.
  • Bonus points were distributed to key contributors.

(3a) Pass KYC process

The third option to gain Sybil points is to pass a know-your-customer process, a ‘KYC’. This offers every user a last chance to pass a Sybil challenge. It uses infrastructure by Goldfinch and Persona to check that users have a valid identity and are not a duplicate.

Goldfinch is distributing Unique Identity NFTs (UID) to individuals that passed the KYC process by Persona. These UIDs can subsequently be used to pass this challenge. It is possible that UIDs may continue to stay useful.

To pass this challenge, start the KYC process and obtain a UID: link.

Importantly, no personally identifiable data is stored on-chain. We will only be able to see that an NFT was issued by Goldfinch. Please note that Goldfinch charges a 0.00083 ETH fee (about $2) in addition to gas, in order to cover the cost of Persona’s service.

It will take some time for the KYC process to conclude. Once you received a notification that you passed the KYC, navigate back to the Testnet UI and sign a message and paste it as per the Challenge description for Option 1.

(3b) Indirect KYC

The last option to pass this challenge is to authenticate your ownership of a Coinbase account. Platforms such as Coinbase conduct a KYC process as part of their sign-up. As such, the confirmation of owning an account is an indirect confirmation of having already passed a KYC process.

Please note that no sensitive information (e.g. wallet balances) will be accessed or stored by us. The only information the app will receive is the minimum public information (e.g. name, profile bio, etc) about the Coinbase account.

Instructions for the challenges

Gain Sybil points via Option 1 — the DeFi whitelist:

Track your progress in the Testnet UI, connect your wallet at MyCrypto.com (avoid Coinbase Wallet, which seems to be buggy) and:

  1. Paste the Kovan address you used in the testnet in the message field
  2. Use the mainnet address that may be eligible, to sign the message and authenticate your ownership

3. Copy the signed message and paste it in the respective field of the game UI

Gain Sybil points via Option 2— Community contributions:

Navigate to the Testnet UI and Login to Discord.

Gain Sybil points via Option 3a — KYC:

Start the KYC process: link

If you just finished the KYC process, it might take some time for the KYC process to be processed. With completing the KYC you will obtain Goldfinch’s UID NFT. Navigate back to the Testnet UI and sign a message from the address holding the NFT to gain Sybil points.

Refer to the instructions of Option 1 for further guidance on how to sign the message.

Gain Sybil points via Option 3b — KYC:

Navigate to the Testnet UI and Login to your Coinbase account.
