Over the past few weeks we’ve continued marching forward on the multifaceted manufacturing process, including making important payments to both our primary and secondary manufacturing partners. The final manufacturing process started as soon as we made those payments. The beginning of that process includes getting several prototypes sent to us using our moldings, and the near-final specifications for RAM, processors, motherboards etc.

Though we’re still testing, we have been thrilled with all the hardware tests on multiple units of the Nano, HoloPort, and HoloPort+ that have already been completed. Here are a few abbreviated details:

Nano
- Installed ubuntu server lite with nix and booted successfully
- All stress tests (cpu/temperature, memory, etc) passed all checks within expected tolerances
- All speed tests were within our expected range
- All USB parts and HDMI are operating correctly based on monitor and peripheral tests
- Over the last few weeks we altered the final position of the LED to allow more space inside our custom aluminum casing. This adjustment added a little time but it won’t shift delivery significantly.

HoloPort & HoloPort+
- Installed HoloPort operating system and booted successfully
- All stress tests passed all checks within expected tolerances
- All speed tests were within our expected range
- All storage device tests passed
- All USB parts and HDMI are operating correctly based on monitor and peripheral tests
- Upon receiving the prototypes, we noticed that the backplate on both the HP and HP+ needed to be adjusted to ensure a more solid feel. It won’t add significantly to our timeline.

There are still some more tests we’d like to do and some final details to attend to, but we’re very happy with the progress we’re making on the entire HoloPort suite.

DevCamp November Registration Now Open!

Last month’s first DevCamp Alpha was awesome. All 36 participants learned a ton — and the Holo team did too! Dev Camp registration is now open for purchase to the general public to boost development on Holochain more broadly. You can find all the details on the DevCamp site. The next DevCamp is from Thursday, November 29th to Monday, December 3rd.

By the end of this DevCamp, you will be able to:

  • install and run a Holochain app
  • create a DNA file
  • write tests for Holochain apps
  • write a Holochain app with agent-centric chat functionality
  • become certified as a Holochain developer

Note that all DevCamp lessons are delivered online, with a combination of live video workshops and self-paced content that’s made available at 00:00 UTC each day.

Hands-on with HoloPorts

And on a personal note, it has been incredibly gratifying for a few of us to see and hold these computers come together. They’re going to be the foundation of a more distributed Internet and it is thrilling to actually be able to hold one in our hands. We can’t wait for you to have the same experience — especially once it is connected and talking to the larger Holo network.

As always, thanks for all of your support.

P.S. Please, bear with our in-house photos! We’re working on getting some professional shots to you soon!
