Get people to do what you want with a ‘nudge.’ Here’s how.
A nudge is any tool used to influence someone’s behavior that doesn’t use incentives or information. We can use them to positively change our clients’ behavior! They are different from laws, rules, and overt manipulation because they still always give our clients a choice — they can decide to do or not do the suggested behavior. Read this CNN interview article with Katy Milkman to learn how to nudge your clients in the right direction!

The Obstacles You Don’t See
Introducing new habits to our clients can be hard. Many of us think the best way to win our clients over is to provide them with some type of fuel or motivation. But organizational psychologist Loran Nordgren says a more effective approach is to focus on the invisible obstacles, the unseen friction, that makes adopting those new habits challenging!

How the day of the week affects your decisions
Ever notice a pattern of Weekenditis in your clients? Or higher levels of motivation on Monday? The day of the week can significantly affect our decision making, and understanding that and taking advantage of that knowledge, can be quite useful when we, as coaches, are determining when to assign new habit practices or when to schedule our check-ins. Watch this TEDx talk with Jet Sanders to learn more!

Michael Bebbington

Health Coach & Online Trainer

I currently work as a Health Coach for the NHS and also own an Online Training business called Forever Forward Training. My main focus is promoting evidence-based, empathetic and compassionate coaching techniques to help improve individuals’ lives through behavior change. I would strongly recommend the HCP Level 1 Certification to anyone who has an interest in behavior change, habit formation, or coaching. The course gives you such a great understanding of habits and human behavior, but not only that, it gives you such a good framework for how to apply your learnings when actually working with clients!
