It’s September 2023! I haven’t been in school for decades, yet I still feel excited at this time of year. The weather promises to be cooler — though in South Jersey this happens in fits and starts — and good things are sure to be ahead.

So, to help re-start my Habit Porn blog, I decided to work on boosting my Vitamin D levels.

In August I underwent gastric bypass surgery, and for the past month I’ve been making many adjustments. One thing I’ve had to get used to is the number of pills I have to take: in addition to my usual medication, I am now taking a daily multivitamin plus iron, sublingual B12 once a week, a calcium supplement, and a fiber supplement. I think I’ve got it all.

I am not a fan of obtaining nutrition through pills, though in my current situation, they are absolutely essential. But I think whole foods and a healthy lifestyle are a lot more fun.

Recent blood work shows that I’m doing well, except for my vitamin D levels, which are just barely “in the green.” I’d like to improve on that without having to take more pills.

The Sun as a Source of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is essential for good health and I’m not satisfied with my levels just being “okay.” What can I do?
