Somehow we managed to enter crypto world. So, now what? We definitely need to create a crypto wallet. And first wallet that you see on the internet is Metamask. Metamask is a Chrome add-on which serves as a crypto wallet. You can add it to all Chromium based browsers like Edge, Chrome, Brave etc. and easily use it. Now let’s learn how to set up and use your first wallet.

Step 1 — Let’s enter metamask.io and add Metamask as a chrome add-on

Step 2 — Start with clicking “create a new wallet”.

Step 3 — Set a password for your wallet. You will use this password every time you open your browser but shouldn’t worry if you forget this, you can easily reset this password.

Step 4 — What is “Seed Phrase” and why it is so important?
Seed phrases are special to every wallet and you MUST keep those 12 words in a safe place because they give access to the wallet from anywhere. You should never share it. And any trustworthy project or person wouldn’t ask them from you.

We created a new wallet to show how those things work and wanted to show seed phrase. Please don’t try to access this wallet.

Step 5 — Approval of the seed phrase.
After you saved your seed phrase sequentially on a safe place. You can pass this step easily.

Step 6 — Congrats! You have your wallet ready to use.

Some simple wallet tricks

Here, we wanted to show you some basic wallet operations that you will use frequently on your crypto journey. And this will be the last step between you and your own journey.

Adding a new network

As default, Metamask comes with Ethereum network but you are not limited with it. You can add networks like Binance Smart Chain (BSC), Avalance, Polygon. As an example, we will show how to set up BSC to your wallet and you can add the others exact same way.

Step 1 — Let’s head to the top left corner of our wallet and click add new network button.

Step 2 — Now you need the information about network that you want to add. We will add information about BSC, Avalanche and Polygon here but you can find other networks quite easily.

Binance Smart Chain
Network Name: Smart Chain
New RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org/
ChainID: 56
Symbol: BNB
Block Explorer URL: https://bscscan.com

Avalanche
Network Name: Avalanche Network
New RPC URL: https://api.avax.network/ext/bc/C/rpc
ChainID: 43114
Symbol: AVAX
Explorer: https://snowtrace.io/

Polygon
Network Name: Polygon Mainnet
New RPC URL: https://polygon-rpc.com/
ChainID: 137
Symbol: MATIC
Explorer : https://polygonscan.com/

Step 3 — After you copied the information about network, everything is set up and the new network is ready to use.

Adding new tokens

Now, you have a lot of networks in your hand and quite a lot of tokens come with those networks but you can’t see any of them in your wallet. That’s because they are not added into your wallet. Let’s see how to add them with an example. We will show how to add SPIN token on BSC.

Step 1 — First thing that we need is contract address of the token. You can find information about most of the tokens on coinmarketcap. So, let’s get SPIN’s address.

There might be several tokens with same name. Be careful which one you want

Step 2 — After you got the address, the rest is very basic. You just click “add new token” button and paste the address. Other empty areas will be filled automatically. And after you click “add special token”, you can see SPIN in your wallet.

With those last steps, you get full control over your wallet. Now you can surf on decentralized exchanges and get every token you want in your wallet. BUT you need to be careful about your wallet’s security. If you don’t be cautious about it, you might lose your all crypto wealth with a wrong move. That’s why you would want to keep your wallet security as high as possible. And we explained how to do that in another article. You can find it in our medium.
