Rita Nfamba Nabweteme, computer science student at Boston University & 2022 Fellow

Growing up in Uganda-Africa, I had limited exposure to technology but moving to the USA has provided more exposure to technology. My family has always pushed me to pursue career paths like law or nursing but I didn’t see any excitement in any of those. I wanted to try something no one else had tried in my family because I enjoy challenging myself. Getting to where I am today hasn’t been an easy journey. My curiosity with learning has helped me gain a lot of experience in many areas of technology, and each day is another learning opportunity to expand my knowledge.

I developed a passion for technology and innovation way back in life while in my country but this was a little impossible to pursue due to limited access to technology and facilities. However, in the USA I have found that data is at your disposal with technological advancements. The field of technology has become more dynamic with more people interacting with the internet, hence more data is being generated. This created a fertile ground to search for opportunities to find out about data. I had a strong desire to work with data, learn what skills are necessary to deal with data, and how to review the results to uncover patterns and enable business leaders to draw informed insights. Pursuing a career path in Data Science and analytics privately while pursuing my degree in Computer Science from Boston University has equipped me with the necessary skills.

Data is one of the most prestigious commodities of any business and its most valuable when refined and utilized efficiently. This motivates me and intrigues me to devise ways of using data to improve business performance, use data for business growth and provide better products.

This drives me to delve into a detailed understanding of how data, especially historical data, can be used to predict the future.

This is a great opportunity for me to apply the tools I have acquired, learn and discover how to make any data set more actionable to help the business thrive in the market. Joining Hack.Diversity is an opportunity for me to be innovative and prepare for a successful career. Coming from a third-world country to a land of opportunities drives me to achieve my dreams and through hard work, I shall achieve my desired future self.
