London is home to world-renowned incubators. There are few more innovative that Barclay’s Eagle Labs. Eagle Labs supports over 493 businesses with 1,997 coworkers and £612m in funding raised. Eagle Labs specialises a range of industries from cleantech to medtech prototyping but leading into 2020 their highlight was their focus on the future of law technology. We caught up with law expert and winner of Eagle Labs lawtech hackathon, James Kaguima, who shared his experiences from the event.

James’ team developed a solution which they consider “Trello for the legal industry”. It made the review process of contracts much easier for line managers, lawyers and senior lawyers. Currently the process isn’t streamlined and automated for the legal industry which allowed his team to fulfil the gap and a despite need.

The opportunity Eagle Labs provided allowed James to branch out. The hackathon empowered James to believe that hackathons “allow you to speak to people you would never speak to especially if you just rely on your degree”. James emphasises that hackathons are a great experience to learn a lot within a short period of time.

The success in Eagle Labs showed James the importance of teamwork, by placing special focus on ensuring the team’s values were aligned from the beginning, James was able to coordinate his team effectively. The next step for James in to utilise the free work space provided by Eagle Labs and to leverage industries experts to continue to develop his teams project.
