How Can You Attract Top Talent As A Bootstrapper?
I’m just shooting off notes from one of the latest events I put together here in Singapore… SheWorx Breakfast Launch at Trehaus Co-Work with Pocket Sun of SoGal Ventures on 30/3. Don’t expect these to be an incredibly thorough analysis of the talk but rather me trying to encrypt my handwriting off 4 pages of notes.
What you want is a diversified team of talented people. If you are like me, bootstrapping your start-up this is difficult to do with little to no money to attract these types of peeps. We think this process look like this.
But Pocket shared with us that it’s not always the case.
A diversified team of tech, business and design/product people just don’t do it for the money. Sometimes they do it because they like the challenge, they truly believe in what you are trying to create and want to jump into something that will change the world.
So how can you do this starting RIGHT NOW?
- Join hackathons (here’s one in Singapore)
- Join different Slack Communities (here’s my favourite Focus Asia where I’ve meet some of my team!)
- Find someone good enough for just now.
- Build rapport with people to get them excited.
Some things to think about:
- What kind of Option Pool are you looking at? 10%-15% or 15%-20%
- How will you implement a Vetting System? 6 months or 2–3 years
