What is SearXNG

SearXNG is a metasearch engine. It works as a proxy for multiple search engines and adds a layer of anonymity.

Every search engines — Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, etc — keeps records about their users, the queries, IP addresses, Operating System, and so much more. With this information they create a profile about all users.

SearXNG keeps all of the queries anonymous. There are several public instances for trial available at searx.space.

Install

Network Topology

I’ll be demonstrating how to install in a SOHO network, two PC, two servers, one switch and one router.

SearXNG will be installed as a docker image in server 192.168.0.201 and server 192.168.0.200 will redirect all traffic through Apache using a Virtual Host.

The OS is Debian/Ubuntu and I’ll assume DNS resolution is already taken care of:

  • searxng.local ->192.168.0.200
SOHO LAN
