“I don’t think that girls who dream of careers in tech should have to rely on luck.” ~Melinda Gates

Hey! I’m Janat and, before anything else, you should know that I love technology and coding! I am currently a grade 11 student at Notre Dame High School. I am a part of a family of 6 and have a twin sister (People always confuse us!). During my free time, I like to binge-watch some of my favourite shows on Netflix, read books, tutor my younger siblings, and practice learning Mandarin. I have started learning Mandarin a few weeks ago and can’t wait to be able to have my first fluent conversation!

This is an example of a fun coding project I did not long ago! You can use your creativity and imagination to make incredible masterpieces!

I developed a love for coding after trying it out for the first time in Grade 10 as part of my computer science course. It was my first time coding and I was instantly intrigued! As a member of Hackergal’s Ambassador Program, I have found it crucial for girls to be leaders in the tech industry and thrive in an environment that fosters growth and allowance for exploration. With the gender gap present in today’s society and a lack of female representation in the tech industry, we need more strong-willed women to take action and make an impact while being an inspiration to younger females.

We, as Ambassadors, want this system to change and strive to inspire as many as posisble girls to take part in this program and explore the art of coding for themselves!

My advice for girls who love tech: Believe in yourself and give it a shot! I believe that it is crucial to educate and introduce girls to tech mainly because of how fast the industry is growing and the potential it has to impact the future. Too many girls don’t take an interest in tech mainly because they haven’t been given the opportunity to enjoy and explore it for themselves.

What I truly love about tech is that it’s constantly changing and developing our world for the better! As we all know, technology has made life way more convenient then it was decades ago. Learning critical tech skills will unmistakably help girls impact the technological world that is expected in the future!
