If you have, then you may know that a synergy is. Synergy is like 1+1=3: The sum is greater than the parts. A synergy in clash royale isn’t only where the damage adds up, but also the counters, defenses, and more to make it greater than just the damage dealt to the tower.
Here are some awesome synergies!

1: Royal Giant + Furnace
Elixir Cost: 10
Arena Required: 7
Why does this synergy work so well? Because the furnace pours out a constant stream of fire spirits, and the royal giant tanks for the spirits. This way, any swarmies trying to destroy your RG will be wrecked, since the fire spirits deal area damage, making them the perfect swarmy counter. It’s very hard to counter this push, but if you have a defensive building, that will come in handy to mitigate the damage done by the RG.
You can replace the furnace with the regular Fire Spirits card. It’s cheaper, but it can be countered more easily. Sooo yeah.
The Royal Giant is pretty good alone, too. It can outrange the Inferno Tower.
2: Lumberjack + Balloon
Elixir Cost: 9
Arena Required: 6 (Legendaries can be unlocked at any arena)
This synergy is very effective because while the lumberjack deals with all of the ground troops below, the balloon can just go straight for the crown tower. However, when the lumberjack dies, it drops its bottle of rage, which will increase the balloon’s speed and damage. The balloon will also go well with the rage spell itself. This is not a push to be ignored. The best way to counter this is with minion horde.
3: Hog rider + Valkyrie
Elixir Cost: 8
Arena required: 2
This combo is so good — if you know how to use it. Place the Valkyrie in front of the hog rider. The Valkyrie will take out all of the ground swarms and tank for the hog, while the hog will push the valkyrie at its speed, which is very fast. Both will deal massive damage to the tower, so you should not ignore this push. Any air swarm will counter it.
Using the cards alone is also good. If you know that their ground/air swarms are cycled through, or have already been used, then place the hog, at all means. The valkyrie is a mini-tank, so it can defend against the Mega Knight, the Prince, the Dark Prince, and the Mini P.E.K.K.A pretty well.
4: Lava Hound + Balloon
Elixir Cost: 12
Arena Required: 6
This combo is very common yet effective, and is called the “LavaLoon” combo. Here’s what happens: The Lava Hound tanks for the Balloon, letting them both deal damage. When the hound is killed, the Balloon tanks for the smaller, weaker Lava Pups. Makes Sense, right? Good. This push will wreck your towers, and as they both target buildings, you can’t kite them with troops. You can, however, use an inferno tower to target the balloon first, then the Lava Hound. Or, use air swarms. Minions, Minion Horde, and Bats will be your best friends in this case.
The Lava Hound is great paired with clone also. Just clone the Hound, and watch as a massive swarm of Lava Pups appears. Yikes.
5: Electro Wizard & Ice Golem
Elixir Cost: 6
Arena Required: 8
One of the more cheap combos, this utilizes the Electro Wizard’s stun effect. Place the Electro Wizard in front of the Ice Golem. The Electro Wizard will give damage to the tower and stunning, and just as it is about to die, the Ice Golem will come in front of it. Why is this important? Well, after an enemy is stunned, its aim resets to the target that is closest to it. the target would then be the Ice Golem, in this case. The Electro Wizard will still do damage, even at a sliver of health. The Ice Golem may get a hit or 2 on the tower. But a lot of damage will be done.
For best counter, use a Valkyrie. It really works well.
The Ice golem can also be used as a cycle card, and the Electro Wizard can be used to counter Sparky, Inferno Tower, Inferno Dragon, Prince, Battle Ram, Ram Rider, and Dark Prince. Wow! Its land damage can kill bats, Spear Goblins, and other stuff.
