My VR Setup

Currently, getting the best experience for Oculus requires more than just your standard Macbook Pro. You need a graphics card that’s hot enough that it could smoke a turkey. I decided instead of trying to play a surgery game of Operation and retrofit my laptop, I would build a desktop. I know, I know… a desktop computer in this day and age — I might as well just get a rotary telephone as well right?

The consoles and laptops are catching up on hardware specs, but currently you get some amazing performance if you can stick through it and get a desktop.

So what did I end up getting? Without further ado, here’s every part that’s in my current VR setup:

Video Card — MSI GTX 970 4G

Processor — Intel Core i7–5820k Haswell

Case — Thermaltake Chaser MK-I (VN300M1W2N) Black SECC ATX Full Tower

Motherboard — MSI X99S SLI Plus

Power Supply — EVGA 220-G2–0850-XR 850 W

RAM — G.SKILL Ripjaws 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4 2800 (PC4–22400) Desktop Memory

SSD — Samsung EVO 500GB

CPU Heatsink/Fan — Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
