Thinking is a natural phenomenon for humans, we have been blessed with a brain for the same, but the problem often occurs when we indulge ourselves in the process of overthinking, when we loose control of our chain of thoughts, and when we simply get stuck in a loop of negative intuitions.

During the last few months of lock down the world has seen the worst cases of depression and anxiety and most of them can be traced back to one simple action, which is constant overthinking without giving any rest to our curious minds.

When we are in the state of overthinking we start connecting things backwards, every action, every word, every intuition, every gesture might connect to one another in someway, and it should actually, since most of the things are related to the single entity that is YOU. It is very natural for your past words and past experiences to connect in someway or the other.

We often don’t realize this fact and step into the loop of negative thinking, where everything feels out of the place, every action of others look like a deceit and every word they say strike our ego and make us feel small, which might be totally wrong, it is wrong 99% of the times to be honest.

The biggest known fear to humanity is the fear of unknown, and anxiety is the brainchild of same fear. when we are not sure of others intentions and others words, we get anxious, we get confused and eventually give up to the first negative thought that pops up in our head.

Holding onto negativity in life is easy, being positive about life and people around us takes an enormous amount of efforts and reinforcements initially, and that is the reason most people succumb to the negativity in life than fighting it head on.

Is there a way to fight the negative overthinking and strengthen our humanly bond with others?

Surely there is!

5 Tips to cure overthinking and boost confidence in life:

  1. Practice Yoga/Meditation: Yes! it will help you a lot. it will help you get all the answers in your life, and if you keep practicing it rigorously for a long time, it will shape your personality in such a way that you will be calm and stable despite all the hardships that might come your way.
  2. Tip:If you are deep into the state of experiencing negative emotions, please refrain from practicing mediation for the meanwhile, as when you meditate your thoughts and belief get reinforced in your subconscious and if you do it while having uncontrolled negativity in mind, it might become even harder for you to come out of it.
  3. You can also enroll for courses such as — Happiness and Meditation course by The Art of Living Foundation, where you will learn the art of managing your life both internally and externally through powerful and scientifically proven techniques such as Sudarshan Kriya.
  4. Start your day with Exercise or Running: We all know that our emotions are at large driven by the chemicals and toxins which are released in our body as a coping mechanism to certain events or experiences. introducing light exercises, especially running in our daily routine can help us attain the perfect chemical balance in the body, which will in return help us be more happy and focused throughout the day.
  5. Also, running has other benefits too, while we are engaged in the act of running our mind stops wandering, our focus starts improving and we get a feeling of accomplishment at the end, which further boosts our confidence and gets us ready for the real life.
  6. Reach out to your family: We often undermine the value of that one person in our lives with whom we can share anything and everything. I think its of great importance to have a person who can listen to our thoughts and our internal struggles without being judgemental about it.
  7. We all have that person in our lives already, its just that we don’t open up to them more often. Yes! I am talking about our family, our family is the only one who won’t judge us for who we are, who will understand the intensity of our situation and would take the first step towards helping us out.
  8. At times it might be hard for even them to understand what we are going through, but then it becomes our duty to explain our plight to them, because once they address and acknowledge that you are in pain, they would turn the world upside down to help you fight the situation. apart from that the moral support that our family can offer is unparalleled to any therapy that we might receive otherwise.
  9. Seek experts help: Talking about our mental health is still considered a big taboo in our Indian society, but slowly and gradually Mental Health concerns are being recognized as a serious concern and positive steps are being taken to spread awareness about the same.
  10. If at any point in time you find it hard to cope with your overwhelming emotions or find yourself in a position where you are unable to put your miseries in words, don’t shy away from seeking counseling or visiting a psychiatrist, it could be a life saving measure and can help your beyond you imagination.
  11. While talking about Mental Health we need to understand that just like other diseases it is also a disease that anyone can catch, and most importantly it is a curable disease, we just need to approach it with caution, love and support.
  12. Find a way to express your emotions: Sometimes what we experience can not be spoken, but can be written in words, or maybe expressed through a painting, find your own way of expression and try using it from time to time to let things out into the universe.

These are just a few measure which can help you keep your mind from rushing into things, but these are not the only ones, you can always look for things which help you be calm and composed. Many people find it therapeutic to spend time amongst nature, but it is not true for everyone, it is all about understanding your needs and then taking a leap of faith.
