Hackers Are Essential To Cyber Security
Hackers might be a dangerous threat to cyber security, but without them and their knowledge we would not have any cyber security or an entire industry for that matter. Hackers are responsible for many companies finding flaws in their programs and software’s and being able to fix them. And as I discussed earlier many large companies in today’s world were actually started by former hackers and computer security enthusiasts, such as Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak creators of Apple, Bill Gates creator of Microsoft, WhatsApp creator Jan Koum, Mark Zuckerber creator of Facebook, Sean Parker creator of Napster, and Jack Dorsey the founder of Twitter.
Without this innovation in technology and people to be interested in it and how it works we wouldn’t have these ever so popular social media outlets and technology companies. One of the most infamous hackers, working for the most infamous and known hacktivist organization Anonymous, Hector Monsegur was wreaking havoc on companies and stealing information and bragging about it on the groups Twitter page just a little over 5 years ago.
Now he is working for a small security firm based in Seattle, Rhino Security Labs. There he tests security systems for companies by breaching their networks to be able to show them where their vulnerabilities are and what they can do to tighten them up and secure their systems. Monsegur didn’t just go from being a hacker to a legit business organization overnight, first he was caught and helped the FBI as an informant, helping them prevent similar attacks of the kind that he had helped orchestrated previously and even spent seven months in prison after he took a plea deal. Now his real test has started with hoping the cyber security industry will accept his new position working for those who he once used to attack and steal from.
