A beautiful singer-songwriter ballad

Nicholas Well’s has not yet hit mainstream even though he has been around the blocks from 2005. But then that’s the hamster wheel of the music charts. One never knows the precise reason of why an artists becomes a hit.

Right time, right place, right producer and some questionable stuff can rise up the charts and some seriosuly good stuff can get lost in the sidelines. It’s like shorting a legitimately good stock.

Well Spotify’s algorithms do the trick most of the time and this time too it did not fail me. In my curated weekly list was this gem.

Rare are songwriters who can capture real life sequences like they are almost unfolding, with the perfect words stitched to the perfect rhyme within the perfect bar. Empty Coffee Cups, is that kind of a lyrical play. You can almost visualise the whole thing. The #G ,#Cadd9, #Emin chords create a melodic tune, aptly supported by Wells on the piano with some short sweet arpeggios.

It’s a bit mushy, so depending on your taste, that can be a cringe, but for me it’s all good. I am a sucker for a good melody:)

In short, a keeper.
