If you enjoy electronic music, perhaps you’ve had the urge to create something all your own. On the other hand, according to this project’s write-up, “DJ consoles, mixers and controller could be very intimidating for beginners.” To make things more approachable, Dror Ayalon, along with Woroya Boonyapanachoti created the NOMNOM to easily create your own groove based on YouTube clips.

This device takes the form of a small controller with a grid of 16 buttons, which can be used to select 16 corresponding videos displayed on a computer screen. Knobs control the volume, speed, length, and how many times a clip repeats in a certain loop, allowing the operator to create new and interesting grooves from these YouTube sources with very little practice.

The controller device runs on an Arduino Uno, which connects to the corresponding computer via serial over USB. The computer, in turn, runs a custom Javascript program to display and play the selected videos.

Easy button interface is provided by an Adafruit Trellis board, and the excellent enclosure is sourced from Mammoth Electronics.
