Ever thought about attending a hackathon? Lots of developers worldwide are presenting themselves at hackathons, but why aren’t you doing the same? Lets have a look at the 6 most important reasons for you to attend a hackathon.

1 — Grow your network

What better way to meet other developers (or even designers) than by doing what you both love the most? You can find many others that are just as much into programming as you are. Even if this isn’t your most beloved activity in the world, hackathons also provide lots of leisure activities like game tournaments and informal drinks.

2 — Show your skills

Even the most humble developers need a little bit of recognition, no matter how talented they are. By participating in a hackathon you can compete against other developers to get the rewards you deserve, and maybe even win a prize in the competition.

3 — Improve your skillset

Not only can you present your skills at a hackathon, you can also improve them. By teaming up with other great developers you can learn from each other. Not so experienced in Java, but great at Ruby on Rails? The chances are your teammates are able to help you, quid pro quo.

4 — Test yourself

Can you deliver under pressure? Test your limits by participating in a coding competition, where talented and experienced teams all have to come up with great prototypes within a limited timeframe.

5 — Meet your new employer

Bored at your current employer? Looking for a more innovative workplace? Hackathons are a great place to meet potential new employers, that on their hand can immediately have a look at your competences.

6 — Participating is about fun

Sure, every participant wants to create a cool new concept. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun while doing so. As mentioned before, next to programming hackathons also offer leisure activities and entertaining people.
