Day 118 –Walnuts- Haibun Journey View From My Window
I was watching three squirrels outside my window this morning. One was eating a walnut. One scurried down the tree and raised a fuss. The female red-bellied woodpecker had picked up a walnut that must have belonged to the squirrel. It was dropped and the squirrel quickly retrieved it. In a neighboring tree, a jenny wren was standing up as tall as she could singing, as if it were spring. Later the woodpecker hitched up the tree with a walnut in her beak and sat on a branch enjoying her feast.
