Day 146 — Ditch lilies— Haibun Journey View From My Window
From my car window, I see the brown fields beginning to green. Bright happy daffodils cover the roadsides. Along the creek beds that just recently spilled over their beds, ditch lilies are sprouting.
It brings to mind a sad story — one of my first teaching experiences. An irate teacher brought one of my students to me. She had asked them to draw a picture of spring and he had drawn a hill and colored it black. I asked the boy to tell me about his picture. He said that every spring his dad burns the hillside to get ready for planting. Of course the other teacher did not care and did not hang his picture with all the rest.
