a faint disturbance
ripples through, puffer fish bloats,
alert, fight-ready

wind’s wake blooms quietly,
puffer deflates, certain of
avoided danger

another perceived
change; another expansion;
muscles twitch in search

unfazed by absence
of real danger, cycle
continues — ’til death
