As a poet, the thing I love about haiku poetry is being able to take an unusual tack on a natural element and expand how we experience it in a way that touches the senses and emotions.

Also, I do adore the ‘kick’ the reader gets when the haiku departs from its original direction taking a hard right in the second or third line. When expertly done, this turn usually elicits an audible “hmmm” or eyebrow hike.

The Haiku Hub publication was created to celebrate, curate and explore this deceptively simple form of poetry by giving it the first home of its own on Medium.

I am happy to note, today’s poets have generously brought multicultural heart, experiences and voices to the Haiku Hub pages; thus renewing and expanding haiku’s relevancy for readers and writers worldwide while also preserving its form.

In this spirit of expanding, your dedicated editors at Haiku Hub have decided to broaden the Haiku Hub’s horizons. So…(drum roll please?)

The Haiku Hub is now open to accepting metered submissions with only one request.

We feel metered submissions offered to HH’s growing readership should rise to a notable level of artistry. We have faith our dedicated haiku poets will respect the quality we seek for metered haiku poetry and submit only their best work.

Here is Medium’s 3 minute read on how curation, distribution and the paywall system works.

here’s our one request:

If you wish us to consider your haiku for metering by Medium for the Partner Program, please leave us a note on your submission to let us know your intent.*

  • If there is no note and the piece is designated for metering we may ask you to unlock it after publishing since we cannot tell it will be locked before publishing.
  • If you have any questions please email us at haikutography@gmail.com.

Now, on to the Haiku This! prompt: Expand

Here’s my contribution to get things started! Happy Haiku-ing!

Thank you to all the artists and poets who have generously helped Haiku Hub grow! We wish you much success in your writing endeavors!
