In classic haiku form — 3 lines, 17 moras — make some sh*t up!

As poets, we all have our own styles of communicating our thoughts, telling a story, sharing wisdom, being humorous, and responding to prompts in prose, rhyme and meter, or specific form. In Haiku and many forms of poetry, the creation of images to enhance the emotional engagement of the reader is a goal of the poet.

As readers, our unique perspectives will influence how we interpret the poems of others, especially if the words and phrases used by the poet challenge us to search for a deeper meaning. Some poems force us to reach for the dictionary (literally or technologically) and then re-read the poem in an attempt to understand what the poet is trying to communicate. That said, the meaning of some poems still escapes us, and in some cases, leaves us wondering if it’s our problem or the poet’s.

Tell us a story in three lines (or sets of three lines, each in classic 5–7–5 haiku form) that challenges the reader to accurately interpret your meaning, but is, in fact, not interpretable. There will be a point reduction (of course, there are points — just no prizes) if any sense at all can be made of your haiku. Here’s an example of “nonsense” to get you started:
