Haiku This! “Roots”
Haiku Hub Twisted Poetry Prompt
With 6 (yes 6!) lines — 34 moras, in classic haiku form x2, convey your perspective on the meaning of Roots.
Roots: we all have them, plants draw sustenance from them, metaphorically everything has them. They can be in your genes, mannerisms, choice of favorite foods, the childhood place that makes your heart go pitter-pat. In the natural world, there are taproots, fibrous roots, and adventitious roots, with further variations from there. Whether we’re talking about our parents, oak trees, or the basis of anything else, I’ve also found that they’re hard to get rid of — embedded into the core of who we are and how we grow. Tell us in three lines your vision of “roots” and what they conjure up for you. This prompt’s twist:
Give us two verses / full haiku that work together, with the second haiku elaborating on the first. It doesn’t have to be an extension, it could be a whole new way of seeing the same “root” or a metaphor that embodies your feelings about it. Up to you!
