Gorgeous blonde locks… say goodbye to bleach and hello to these alternate methods
Now there are many do’s and don’ts within every industry, ranging from the skincare industry, the nutrition industry, the construction industry and for us today the haircare industry. Within the world of haircare there are many taboo topics, the biggest of which some argue is the use of bleach on hair.
What’s coming up:
- Dangers of using bleach

- Photos of bleach damage.
Dangers of using bleach
Bleach is commonly used all over the world to lighten one’s hair using hydrogen peroxide in the process of oxidation. In simple terms, it is the process which allows hair to be made lighter, as it strips it of its natural pigment. But what are the dangers?
For those regulars at the salon asking for bleach every few months, the next few side effects won’t be anything new to you. Whilst a client is sat in the hairdresser’s hair, they can expect these short-term side effects:
- A burning sensation of the scalp- this is due to the product being applied most commonly to the roots, often touching the scalp and causing this uncomfortable sensation.
- Redness of the scalp- purely due to the products and chemicals used and mixed to create the lighter colour of your hair
- Allergic reactions- many hairdressers advise to have a patch test done before many treatments, to ensure a dangerous allergic reaction won’t occur. But with bleach in use many people can experience reactions including asthma, wheezing and rashes.
Do all these ring a bell to any of you readers? Now having learnt what you can expect in the salon chair, let’s explore what side effects can be expected in the long run.
- Risk of hair breakage
- Dries out any moisture the hair previously held
- Can damage curls
- Requires a lot of maintenance, expensive shampoos to help relieve your hair
Facts about bleach usage
- 15–20% of the hair’s keratin will break from using bleach, Begum
- Bleaching is an irreversible process, once it has begun you cannot go back
- It takes roughly 30–45 minutes to bleach hair, Lindner
- On average, 70% of people bleach their hair before adding dye, Lindner

Alternatives to achieve the same look
Whilst bleaching hair is the most efficient and effective way to achieve those blonde locks, we have learnt that by no means is it the safest. So here are some other alternatives to achieve these gorgeous blonde locks:
- Lemon juice squirted onto hair
- Purple shampoos and conditioners to enhance any natural light tones
- Exposure to sunlight
These three methods will not give you the same effect as 30 minutes of bleach will give you, however 30 years down the line you will thank yourself for still having healthy growing hair, instead of what I am about to show you now.
Photos of bleach damage
Not even the worst photo I have seen of bleached hair, but an obvious difference in how years of bleaching can damage your hair. And it doesn’t just happen to normal people like me and you.
Kim Kardashian is in the hot seat at the moment for dying her hair blonde yet again. Next time you see her on your insta page, have a look at her hair and see for yourself that damage that has been done. Or what you will most likely see is her in a wig, covering up her embarrassment from the very little hair she has left.
