Even though people have been caring for their hair for centuries now we are nowadays most exposed to new information about hair than ever, from TikTok through Instagram to the new products and hair techniques we can say that everything about hair is begging to be complicated and almost difficult. This is why in this article, we are going to dive into a 101 hair routine where we are going to know our basics

Discover your hair type

Before diving into a hair routine you saw on some YouTube video, you need to understand and know which hair type you have — no, only knowing if your hair is oily or dry doesn’t work — and how to care for it in order to achieve a healthy hair.

  • Texture: you want to know whether your hair is thick or thin, this won’t only help you build the perfect routine, it will help you choose the right hair cut. Your hair can be thin, which will mean that your strands are slim and delicate, and you may be dealing with breakage. On the opposite side, you may have thick hair that you need help taming, and you may deal with frizz.
  • Porosity: this characteristic of your heir will help you the most when choose products. In order to test the porosity of your hair, you want to fill a glass with room temperature water and put a few fallen hair on it, if your hair is fully submerged in about 2 to 4 minutes you have high porosity hair, which basically means you may be dealing with frizz you will want to use some kind of oil and protein to seal your pores. If your hair floats, will mean that your hair has low porosity, you need to avoid oils and look for really hydrating but light products.
  • Curl pattern: probably this is the easiest to know, we want to clarify that you may be dealing with wavier hair that you think you may not know because it is hiding under frizz and dryness.

Hair routine

Once you identify your hair necessities, you can build your perfect hair routine based on the basic steps:

  • Hair wash: choose a shampoo based on your hair type and try to aim for natural and gentle products even if you have oily hair, you don’t want to me harsh every time you wash your hair. We recommend using clarifying shampoo every few washes, specially your hair last long between washed, or you use a lot of styling products.
  • Conditioning: while conditioning your hair, you need to remember how porous your hair was, since you want to use heavier or lighter products depending on that.

While styling, you want to avoid scrunching your hair with a drying towel in order to prevent frizz and breakage. Try to avoid, as much as you can, using heat every day and try to aim for lower maintenance styling.

Hair-loss is a common problem that can be caused by a big variety of factor, including genetics, stress, hormonal changes and hair care habits. Using heat devices frequently, like irons, curlers and blow driers can be damaging leading to hair loss problems. Bleaching and using permanent colors on your hair may not only produce breakage e but also hair loss since if it can be debilitating to your scalp.
