Ever wondered how some people are gifted with everlong luscious locks? Well, the chances are they haven’t been gifted with luck, they have simply been taking the correct supplements needed to initiate this healthy hair growth process. Think of that aisle in the supermarket or pharmacy, full of small tubs of vitamins and supplements. They range from skincare goodness, to pregnancy vitamins, to children’s gummies and to what we will explore today… to a variety of hair supplements.

Whilst there are endless vitamins, brands and types of supplements, for now let’s focus on just 3 supplements that work wonders for our hair.

  1. Biotin.

You may have heard of biotin being referred to as vitamin B7, which is just another commonly used name for the vitamin. This is arguably the most used vitamin to promote hair growth. It thrives in creating rich sources of keratin (a word heard every 5 minutes in the hairdressers), which being the main element of our hair, is essential for growth. Whilst creating ketarin, biotin also carries oxygen and nutrients to the scalp, the spot in which hair growth begins. Doctors recommend 3–5 milligrams daily which can be taken through a supplement found in any pharmacy or vitamin store. Additionally to this supplement, eggs, fish, nuts and broccoli are some great food sources to further increase your natural intake of biotin.

  1. Vitamin C

Vitamin C works as a powerful antioxidant, helping to increase blood circulation through not only your scalp but also to your whole body. As the scalps receive a stronger blood flow it allows hair follicles to grow quicker and be made stronger. This leaves us with a constant rate of strong, healthy, fresh hair. At the same time as all this, vitamin c aids in the process of creating collagen, click here to read my previous article on how collagen is important for our bodies. This collagen within the scalp is used to make keratin, which we have already learnt is a godsend for our hair. Whilst being a great stimulator for hair growth, vitamin c is also a fighter against free radicals (molecules that steal healthy cells, in this case reducing hair growth).

If you’re not ordering some vitamin c supplements as you read this article, you really should be!

  1. Iron

Lastly, let’s take a look at Iron. Iron has a strong role in not only hair growth, but protecting against hair loss; strong correlations have been seen between people with iron deficiencies and hair loss. Without a sufficient amount of iron, our cells do not receive the correct amount of oxygen. In this case if the scalp does not receive high levels of oxygenated cells, then hair growth will not occur. Iron can be found enriched in dark meats, beans or leafy greens.

Still a bit sceptical about whether these vitamins really work? Take a look for yourself….

The photos below were taken before and after a period of time of taking biotin. You can see how the hair has grown back thicker, and healthier than before in both of the series of photos.
