Ombre technique used in art has become one of the most trendy hairstyles in Korea. Let’s go see A to Z of the Ombre style.

1. What is Ombre?

Ombre means shade in French, and various colors form gradation like shade. It means the hair style itself which the color changes, not the specific color. You can express different colors in different combinations. The basic of ombre is that the color of the top is dark, and the end of the hair has brighter or more vivid color.

2. Classic Blue or Ash Ombre

Any color is possible for Ombre, but especially in 2020–2021 in Korea, classic blue, which was the color of 2020, and ash color were popular to Ombre. Ash Ombre was such a HOT keyword.

3. Balayage and Foil

From now on, let’s take a look at Ombre-like styles one by one. First of all, Balayage or Foil is always mentioned with ombre.

Balayage is also French, which means ‘sweeping with a broom’ or ‘dyeing’. While Ombre is the name for a style, Balayage is the name for a dyeing technique. Foil is also a dyeing technique. It has a vertical highlight, which naturally blends in with the original hair.

4. Sombre

At this point, long after Ombre has become a trend, the really popular style in Korea is Sombre than Ombre.

Sombre is a compound word of soft+ombre. It can be seen as more natural ombre, but in fact, it is natural balayage and ombre at the same time.

5. Highlights

Bridge dyeing, which was popular in Korea in the 2000s, is the latest highlight dyeing. It literally highlights the hair, and it’s a style that highlights the color after bleaching the part.

Korean idols are back in trend with their colorful highlights. It may be similar to Balayage or Sombre by giving it a vertical point with partial bleaching. Actually, Balayage or Sombre is characterized by natural expression, while Highlight is by emphasizing the contrast.

6. Two-tone dyeing

Two-tone dyeing is literally a hair style with two colors in one hair style. I think all the styles we’ve seen before are two-tone in a way.

However, two-tone dyeing is characterized by a bold contrast like the highlight. Unlike highlights, there is a difference in bleaching the strands by dividing them into sections that are not bleached.

A variety of styles are derived from two-one, including secret two-tone and earring dyeing, which will be covered in detail in the two-tone dyeing section. To be continued!
