The Problem…..
We are a group of Teach for India fellows working as full time elementary teachers in government schools and low income private schools spread across Delhi with a vision of enabling the provision of an excellent education in these schools.
During the course of our fellowship, we realized that our students were neither truly aware of the world beyond their community nor of their own capabilities. It was mostly because children in these schools were not provided with opportunities to explore and display their talents. They rarely got to see or present themselves to the world outside the dingy four walls of their classrooms. And this is where we decided to intervene and collectively find a solution to the problem!
We believe that our students are full of potential, hopes and dreams! What is needed is the mere creation of an equally accessible space where every child is provided a platform to explore and showcase his/her talents and a chance to gain new skills.
Hakuna Matata is our attempt to address the hopes and aspirations of these children. Coming soon this April, Hakuna Matata would be a One- Day fun filled event for all the children of Teach for India elementary classrooms across Delhi. The kids will get a chance to engage in a variety of competitions, workshops and exhibitions.
Close your eyes for a while and remember the first time you ever participated in and won a competition. Still brings back the excitement, right?
The way you felt about yourself that day still stays with you. The happiness and excitement of having performed something and being appreciated for it stays life long.
Here is a chance for numerous kids from various nooks and corners of Delhi who, otherwise, might not get such an opportunity to get exposed to a series of similar experiences!
