6 Amazing Arab Female Athletes

Women are amazing. Sportswomen even more so! Let’s take some time to appreciate these amazing Arab female athletes!

Some women couldn’t care less about sports, while others make history. These women soared towards fame and success with their outstanding performances in sports. Here’s a list of some of the amazing Arab female athletes from around the world.

1. Sarah Attar

At the top of the list we have Sarah Attar, an American Saudi Athlete. She was one of the first two female athletes to ever represent Saudi Arabia in the Olympics (London 2012). She also participated in the Marathon at the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro.

2. Rani Elwani

A three time Olympian Dr. Rani Elwani is a professional swimmer, and has been a champion for 11 years in a row. Dr. Elwani was also the first female to make it to the finals of the Olympics in swimming. Beside being an athlete she is a doctor specialized in obstetrics and gynecology.

3. Ruqaya Al-Ghasra

The third amazing Arab female athlete on our list is Ruqaya Al-Ghasra. A sprinter from Bahrain, and one of the first women to represent Bahrain at the Olympics in 2004. In 2006 she participated in the Asian Games In Doha and won the Women’s 200m. This was Bahrain’s first major International Athletics gold medal.

4. Hassiba Boulmerka

Hassiba Boulmerka is considered a national heroine and a great Arab role model. Her aim was to break the stereotypes and all restrictive rules that she found in a lot of the sports. She was the first Arab female to ever win an Olympic title. Also the first female African to win an athletic world title in the world championships.

5. Hedaya Malak Wahba

Another great athlete, Hedaya Malak Wahba is an Egyptian taekwondo practitioner. Malak’s interest in Taekwondo started at the age of six, following her brother’s steps and at the age of 14, she won Egypt’s championship. Her commitment and excessive training made her reach the Olympics in 2012, and 2016, when she finally won a bronze medal.

6. Inès Boubakri

Last but not least, we have Inès Boubakri a Tunisian foil fencer and a two time Olympian. She took part in the 2012 summer olympics in London reaching the quarter final. Four years later, she came back stronger for the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro and won a bronze medal. That made her the first Tunisian Female to win such a medal at the olympics.
