Stumble Forward, with Purpose

To recover from job loss, embrace responsibility.

Almost 50 million people have filed for unemployment in the United States since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

There are only about 157 million workers in the United States workforce at any given time.

Our unemployment rate ranges from an official number of around 13% to higher estimates approaching 16%. This doesn’t count underemployment, which probably adds an additional 3%.

Being without a job isn’t just being without a paycheck.

It’s being without responsibility. Without purpose. Without a clear future.

A person commits to a career because they believe the field offers value, and choose to share in its prospects. Taking a job equates to valuing oneself equal to the task at hand — to broadcasting to the world that an organization’s work is worth the majority of the person’s time.

In this way, tribalism is good. It’s a natural state of affairs.
