What’s Your Body Roundness Index?
These 2 Health Metrics are more Reliable than the BMI
The American Medical Association has cautioned physicians against using only the BMI as a health measurement.
The Body Mass Index BMI has always being used as a health metric and is usually calculated as weight(kg)/height2 (m2) however, it is not the most reliable health metric. there are better and more reliable devices.
Why you Shouldn’t Rely Only on the BMI as a Health Metric
Doctors are now recommending that relying on the BMI alone is misleading.
A 2016 study found that, “close to 50% of persons deemed as overweight(B.M.I. between 25 and 29.9), and close to one third of those said to be obese (B.M.I. of 30 or above) were actually in good metabolic health.
- The BMI is a poor indicator of assessing obesity, because it doesn’t take into account differences in age, race, sex, genders and ethnicity.
- It is also unable to differentiate between individuals with a lot of muscle mass versus those with excessive fat mass.
