Messes

the closest thing I have to friends
are the people who pour me cortados

when it rains I count the drops
one by one, drip, drip
from the awning by my bedside window

give me rain
and I will make a mess
I’ve always been known for that
making messes and such

My wife will be going on a medical missions trip at the end of the year as a nursing student. It has long been on my wife’s heart to engage in serving communities that lack access to the basic medical services that frankly I take for granted. Considering the pittance I make as a poet, through the month of October I am dedicating my writing to our goal of finding at least 100 people able to contribute $10, which would go a long way in turning this possibility into a reality.

If it is within your means and these types of works are ones you like to support, I ask that you would consider donating here — every little bit helps. If you are not able to, I appreciate you all the same — I would just ask you keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

I want to write the words I wish were written for me. For those dark moments I kept to myself and insisted on standing alone — even though I never really was.
