It’s World Environment Day! Let’s go outside, explore nature, appreciate the world we live in! Or, as it’s raining, let’s support the local businesses around Manchester doing their bit for the environment! All over the city Zero Waste Shops are becoming more and more popular as we all focus more on the world around us.

We’ve created a handy guide to a few zero waste shops that are currently open and taking orders for delivery or collection in and around Manchester. Bonus! Some of these places are actually cheaper than supermarkets! So instead of spending your weekend queueing to get into your local why not check out these shops instead?!

The Good Life — Heatons, Stockport

First up, it’s The Good Life based in Heatons, Stockport. This place really is a sustainable living dream. Founded by Shelly Brown, The Good Life has a mission to provide a positive place in the centre of the community allowing customers to shop in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way! The shop seems to offer everything including plastic free tea, dry goods, sweets, household products and alcohol!!! You can check out their online shop here https://www.thegoodlifeheatons.com/s/shop and see for yourself all the products on offer!

Unicorn Grocery — Chorlton

Next we have Unicorn Grocery in Chorlton. Unicorn was established in 1996 and since then has become a community hub providing carefully sourced tasty food which is sold at affordable prices. As well as providing sustainable food Unicorn is super aware of their environmental impact. Check out their values on their website here https://www.unicorn-grocery.coop/ . Currently Unicorn is open on Mondays for you to go down and visit when you book a slot online.

Village Green Coop — Prestwich

Finally, we have Village Green Coop based in Prestwich. This shop has been around since 2014 and is again a fully established community hub. This place is really worth a visit when it’s open if you’re ever in the area! Currently they are offering fruit and veg boxes which can be delivered for free on Mondays and Thursdays! Come on — you’re a student you know you need more fruit and veg! Check out their website here https://www.unicorn-grocery.coop/ .

There are more Zero Waste shops open in and around Manchester if none of these are close to you! Why not check out some of these places and try them out for yourself. Whilst everything is still a little weird now is the perfect time to invest more into sustainable living. We could all be a little more environmentally friendly so why not give it a go?
