Too Old To Care

To say the old no longer care,
oversimplifies. The smells,
musty-sweet like death, linger
in our clothes and we can’t help
but feel creeping encroaching decay.

We embarrass easily,
but we don’t let on — keeping
up the ruse: a persona
placed by a world disturbed
with the thought that nothing lives

forever.
